Cod’s Off on Holiday… So We’re Serving the Family Instead
If you’re visiting Harbour Lights in Falmouth this week and notice something missing from the menu… don’t panic.
Cod has gone on holiday.
No out-of-office. No postcard. Just… gone.
But the good news? The family have stepped in – and they’re more than up to the job.
Try something NEW
Why Are We Giving Cod a Break?
Cod is the UK’s most loved fish – and for good reason. It’s flaky, mild, and perfect for fish and chips.
But that popularity comes at a cost.
By taking cod off the menu for a short time, we can:
- Help reduce pressure on stocks
- Support more sustainable fishing practices
- Encourage people to try other brilliant species
- Protect the future of fish and chips
It’s not about replacing cod – it’s about looking after it.

Meet the Family
While cod’s away, we’re shining a spotlight on some of its closest relatives (and a few equally tasty alternatives):
🐟 Hoki
Mild, soft and beautifully flaky – hoki is a fantastic introduction if you’re trying something new. It cooks perfectly in batter and is widely used in fish & chips around the world.
🐟 Coley
Often overlooked, but a real hidden gem. Coley is very similar to cod, with a slightly firmer texture that works brilliantly when fried.
🐟 Haddock
A proper chip shop classic. Slightly sweeter than cod, with beautiful white flakes – and a firm favourite for many of our regulars.
Responsibly Sourced, Always
All the fish we serve – including cod, hoki, coley and haddock – comes from MSC-certified fisheries.
That means:
- Sustainably caught
- Fully traceable
- Helping protect fish stocks for the future
So when you tuck into your fish & chips, you know it’s a choice that’s better for the sea as well as your plate.
